Tencent’s Call of Duty challenger Delta Force: Hawk Ops launching as PC open beta this December

Delta Force: Hawk Ops Launching Global Open Beta on December 5th

Delta Force: Hawk Ops, a free-to-play tactical FPS game and contender to popular titles like Call of Duty and Battlefield, will be launching its global open beta for PC on December 5th this year. This game is published by Tencent, a well-known name in the gaming industry.

Reviving a Classic Series

The Delta Force series, originally developed by NovaLogic and first introduced in 1998, has a rich history with eight sequels released over the years. Although a ninth sequel was announced by NovaLogic in 2016, the series faced a setback due to the closure of the developer. However, Tencent stepped in last year and revealed plans to revive the franchise for PC, consoles, and mobile platforms. The reboot of Delta Force, developed by Tencent’s Timi Studio Group (responsible for Call of Duty: Mobile as well), has undergone multiple alpha playtests in preparation for its upcoming open beta.

Exciting Features in the Open Beta

The global open beta, previously known as Early Access, is considered the “initial release version” of Delta Force: Hawk Ops. Players can expect full live-service content updates without the fear of progress resets. The launch on December 5th also marks the commencement of the first season, Genesis, bringing new maps and modes for the 32-player Havoc Warfare component and Hazard Operations’ squad-based PvPvE mode. Additionally, players can look forward to a new operator, new weapons, and a new vehicle being introduced as part of the update.

Tencent has clarified that there will be paid content available during the open beta, including Battle Passes, weapon appearances, and vehicle appearances. However, the company assures players that there will be no pay-to-win elements in the game. As the open beta progresses, more content such as new maps, modes, Operators, weapons, and vehicles will be added, along with improvements in gameplay, performance, anti-cheat measures, and controller support. The single-player campaign inspired by Black Hawk Down will be released at a later date.

Multiplatform Release

Delta Force: Hawk Ops will be accessible through Tencent’s official browser, Steam, and the Epic Games Store when it goes live for PC on December 5th. Players can anticipate releases on PlayStation, Xbox, and mobile platforms in the first quarter of 2025. This strategic move by Tencent has the potential to shake up the established dominance of titles like Battlefield and Call of Duty, as noted by Eurogamer contributor Rick Lane in a preview earlier this year.
