Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered enhancements include map, compass, and more

Crystal Dynamics recently announced the remaster of the beloved dark fantasy action-adventures Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 a couple of months ago, and as the December release approaches, remaster developer Aspyr has shared some exciting details about the enhancements players can expect.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog mainly focused on showcasing the games’ bosses, Aspyr confirmed that the remaster will include remodeling, retexturing, and even re-sliming of the original boss roster to give them a fresh new look. Additionally, antagonist Kain has received a “completely redesigned” model to address textural issues and bring his appearance closer to the original FMVs.

Aspyr mentioned, “The original model in SR1 was especially limited so now both games have a Kain that looks consistent between the two titles.” These visual updates were somewhat anticipated after the announcement trailer, but Aspyr has also unveiled new features such as a map and compass in both games. The compass gently guides players in the right direction without giving away specific details, while the map serves as a reference tool. There is also a collection tracker to help players keep track of collectibles in each area.

For fans wanting a more traditional Legacy of Kain experience, the remastered visuals can be switched back to the original look, and the compass can be disabled in the settings menu. The remastered versions of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 are set to launch on December 10th for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Series X/S, Switch, and PC.
