Ubisoft disbands team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Reports have surfaced that Ubisoft disbanded the team responsible for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown shortly after the release of its Mask of Darkness DLC. Following this disbandment, developers from the team have diversified into various new projects, one of which is rumored to be a Rayman Remake.
About the Rayman Remake
According to Grant Taylor-Hill of Insider Gaming, approximately twelve developers who previously worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown are now involved in the development of an unannounced Rayman Remake. Referred to as “Project Steamboat”, the game is said to be primarily developed by Ubisoft Milan, with Rayman creator Michel Ancel serving as a consultant despite facing allegations of toxic leadership.
As for the remaining developers from the Prince of Persia team, they have shifted their focus to projects like Beyond Good & Evil 2 and the next installment in the Ghost Recon series. Interestingly, some developers viewed their work on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown as a form of “rehabilitation zone” for individuals experiencing burnout from working on Beyond Good & Evil 2.
Challenges for Ubisoft
Ubisoft appears to be facing numerous challenges at the moment. Despite positive reviews, the company turned down a proposal for a second expansion for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown due to underwhelming sales performance. Additionally, the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake was indefinitely delayed until a recent trailer hinted at a vague 2026 release window.
Following the underwhelming launch of Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft had to reevaluate its game release strategy. This resulted in the postponement of the highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Shadows to February 2025, along with a price reduction for the Collector’s Edition of the upcoming action-adventure game.
