Enhanced Support for PS5 Pro in Upcoming Games
As the release of the enhanced PS5 Pro draws nearer, developers are busy adding support for the new console. Recently, Insomniac announced updates for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man 2 that will make full use of the capabilities of the PS5 Pro.
What to Expect from the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man 2 Updates
The updates for both Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man 2 on the PS5 Pro are quite similar. They introduce two new graphics modes and give players the option to toggle between different graphical settings.
The default setting on the PS5 Pro is the “performance pro” mode, which aims to deliver a smooth gameplay experience at 60 frames per second while maintaining high image quality. This mode utilizes the advanced machine learning upscaling technology known as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to achieve this. Additionally, all ray tracing features, including ray traced reflections on water and windows, are enabled by default in this mode, making it the recommended choice for most players.
On the other hand, the “fidelity pro” mode is designed for players who want to tweak their graphical settings. This mode targets a stable 30 FPS but can achieve higher frame rates by adjusting the graphics features and utilizing a display with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and 120 Hz. Players can also expect increased pedestrian density in certain areas and improved hair detail in this mode.
The new graphical toggles introduced in these updates are related to the ray tracing features. Players can adjust the settings for ray traced reflections and ray traced ambient occlusion to tailor the gaming experience based on their preferences.
In addition to these enhancements, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart also includes a bug fix for missing fur wetness in certain cinematics on Corson V.
It’s worth noting that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man 2 are not the only PlayStation first-party games receiving updates for the PS5 Pro. Titles like The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, God of War Ragnarok, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will also be optimized for the new console. The PS5 Pro is set to launch on November 7, 2024.
