Xbox reaffirms commitment to “bringing great games to more people on more devices”

Xbox Plans to Expand Game Franchises to PS5 and Nintendo Switch

Xbox remains dedicated to making great games accessible to more players on various platforms, including PS5 and Nintendo Switch. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasized the company’s commitment to extending its strategy to bring popular franchises to other consoles in a recent LinkedIn post.

Expanding Game Reach

Nadella stated, “We are bringing great games to more people on more devices. With our acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, which closed October 2023, we’ve added hundreds of millions of players to our ecosystem.”

The CEO also revealed that Microsoft holds publishing rights to 20 game franchises with over $1 billion in lifetime revenue. While Call of Duty is a notable franchise acquired recently, it was not among the six listed by Nadella.

Diverse Gaming Portfolio

Nadella added, “We now have 20 franchises that have generated over $1 billion in lifetime revenue – from Candy Crush, Diablo, and Halo, to Warcraft, Elder Scrolls, and Gears of War. And with Xbox cloud gaming, we continue to innovate to offer players more ways to experience the games they love – where, when, and how they want.”

Furthermore, Nadella mentioned that four popular titles were introduced to Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation for the first time, as Xbox expands its content to new platforms.

Financial Success and Challenges

Recent reports reveal that Nadella’s compensation for the financial year will amount to $79.1 million, marking a 63% increase from the previous year. This notable increase comes amidst a positive financial year for Microsoft, although the company faced challenges such as mass layoffs affecting thousands of employees.
