The Sims 4 Continues to Thrive with Over 15 Million New Players
The Sims 4, despite being a decade old game, has shown no signs of slowing down as EA recently announced that it has attracted over 15 million new players this year alone.
To put this growth into perspective, it took The Sims 4 six years to reach 20 million players after its launch in 2014. However, the player base experienced a significant boost when EA made the game free-to-play in October 2022, leading to a surge in players to 85 million by May of this year. The additional 15 million players gained in the past 12 months further solidify the game’s enduring popularity.
This milestone was highlighted in EA’s second-quarter 2025 financial report, where the company noted that increased engagement has led to higher-than-expected net bookings for The Sims franchise. Despite its age, The Sims 4 is positioned as a foundational experience as the series evolves beyond traditional linear releases.
EA’s renewed focus on The Sims 4 includes more frequent bug fixes to address long-standing technical issues, along with new in-game events like the Reaper’s Rewards Event and a stream of DLC releases. The upcoming Life & Death expansion, set to release on October 31st, promises a unique and macabre experience for players, building on the recent expansion of ghost-form gameplay mechanics.
The game has come a long way since its infamous “Swimmingpoolgate” incident, showcasing its resilience and ability to captivate players over a long period of time.
