Alien: Isolation mod messes with events so it technically ends before it begins


Did you find Alien: Isolation a bit too long for your liking? Maybe you wished the game ended in just under a minute? Well, a modder has now made that a reality with an “impossible” mod that completely changes the game’s timeline.


Matt Filer, the modder behind this creation, explained on YouTube that the mod drastically shortens the playable length of Alien: Isolation by introducing Xenomorphs to LV-426. This means the game technically ends before it even begins.


The mod alters a flashback sequence in the game, which usually occurs hours into the storyline, by inserting a Xenomorph. This change results in fatal consequences for the flashback crew, leading to a chain of events that prevent the main story from unfolding as intended.

But this mod does more than just add a Xenomorph; it also moves the flashback sequence to the very beginning of the game. This adjustment eliminates any paradoxical inconsistencies and, depending on the Xenomorph’s efficiency, can lead to the entire story ending in under a minute – just like in Filer’s video demonstration that clocks in at 46 seconds.


Aside from being a fun novelty, this mod also showcases Filer’s OpenCAGE, a set of open-source mod tools for Alien: Isolation. These tools allow for a wide range of modifications, including asset import/export, level script edits, NPC behavior tweaks, weapon mods, and more. And if you’re curious, Filer has even created a Thomas the Tank Engine mod using these tools.


While Sega has hinted at a sequel to Alien: Isolation being in the works, Filer’s mod messes with the timeline so much that it raises questions about the possibility of such a sequel. Reality might be on the verge of collapsing anytime soon.
