Long-Running Microsoft Franchise Leaked for PS5 – Report

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition Possibly Coming to PS5

Microsoft has been making strides in bringing some of its popular games to the PS5, such as Diablo VI and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Now, it seems that one of Microsoft’s longest-running franchises may also be making its way to Sony’s current gaming platform.

A recent Reddit thread started by draconis90 has sparked rumors that Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is in development for the PS5. In the thread, a screenshot was shared showing players with the PlayStation icon next to their usernames in the game, hinting at a potential port to Sony’s console. However, Microsoft has yet to confirm this news.

While it remains unconfirmed, the presence of PlayStation icons next to player names in Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition has led to speculation that playtesters or developers may be involved in testing the game on the PS5 platform.

Reports from The Verge’s Tom Warren earlier this year suggested that Microsoft’s games, including titles like Sea of Thieves and Grounded, were set to launch on the PS5 as part of Project Latitude. Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition was also mentioned as a potential candidate for this initiative, hinting at a possible release on Sony’s console.

If Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition does make its way to the PS5, it wouldn’t be the first time the game appeared on a PlayStation platform. The RTS title was previously released for the PS2 in 2001, with Konami as the publisher. Originally launched for PC in 1999, the game has since undergone a remaster by World’s Edge and Forgotten Empires, receiving critical acclaim upon its release in 2019 for PC and later on Xbox consoles.
