Nvidia Introduces Playtime Cap for GeForce Now Subscribers
Nvidia has recently announced a change to its GeForce Now cloud gaming service, introducing a playtime cap for paying subscribers. Starting soon, Performance (previously Priority) and Ultimate subscribers will have a monthly playtime limit of 100 hours. However, additional hours can be purchased for a fee.
The decision to implement this playtime cap was shared by Nvidia on Reddit, with the company stating that it would help maintain quality, speed, and reduce queue times. Nvidia assured its users that the new limit would still be sufficient for the majority of members, accommodating around 94 percent of subscribers.
For those who wish to exceed the 100-hour monthly limit, they will have the option to purchase additional hours. Performance members can buy 15 extra hours for $2.99 USD, while Ultimate tier subscribers will need to pay $5.99 for the same amount. Any unused hours, up to 15, will automatically roll over to the following month.
Changes and Benefits for GeForce Now Subscribers
Nvidia’s new playtime restrictions will take effect at the beginning of 2025. However, current subscribers and those who sign up before December 31st of this year will continue to enjoy unlimited playtime until January 2026. Founders tier members will retain their unlimited playtime for life, as long as their membership remains active. Switching to an Ultimate subscription will result in the 100-hour monthly play limit being enforced starting in January 2026.
In addition to the playtime limitations, Nvidia has also announced some new benefits for GeForce Now subscribers. The Performance tier, now known as Performance, will soon allow streaming in 1440p resolution, up from the previous 1080p. Subscribers at both the Performance and Ultimate levels will also have the ability to save their in-game graphics settings for future streaming sessions.
