Hello,
This year has already been a very eventful one for No Man’s Sky, with a total of six updates, including the significant Worlds Update. Our latest update, The Cursed, was released just a few weeks ago, and players have been enjoying the spooky Halloween theme.
In the world of game development, some features can take weeks or even months to implement, while others may take years. Today, we are thrilled to announce the release of features that have been in the works for several years.
Cross-Save Support on All Platforms
Starting today, we are launching Cross-Save support on all platforms, including PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and more. This has been a monumental task and is one of the most requested features by our community.
The ability to seamlessly switch between platforms is truly game-changing. Players can enjoy the game on their console from the comfort of their sofa, continue an Expedition on the go with Switch or Steam Deck, build impressive bases on their powerful PC setups, and experience them in immersive Virtual Reality.
Enabling the transfer of saves between platforms via a server is particularly challenging for No Man’s Sky, given the increasing complexity with each supported platform and the length of time players have been actively engaging with the game. Both of these factors present significant hurdles for our small team.
Many players have accumulated thousands of hours of gameplay exploring vast space, constructing elaborate bases, and documenting their discoveries with meticulously detailed saves. Introducing Cross-Save is akin to relocating a household; the longer players have been engaged with the game, the more intricate the process becomes! We even have players who logged in once at launch, eight years ago, now revisiting that save on a platform that didn’t exist at the time!
Given these challenges, we have quietly been incorporating the technology required for this update for over six months. We are now prepared to begin the rollout of Cross-Save to a select group of players. From today, all No Man’s Sky players can link their various accounts on the No Man’s Sky: Cross-Save website. A subset of players will then be able to choose their saves from multiple devices on the in-game save screen. In the upcoming weeks, all players will have the opportunity to do the same.
The Normandy Returns
At Hello Games, we are all enthusiastic science fiction enthusiasts. One of our absolute favorite franchises is the incredible Mass Effect series. To join in the annual N7 celebrations of Mass Effect, we are thrilled to reintroduce the legendary SSV Normandy SR1 back into No Man’s Sky!
In 2021, the Normandy made its debut in one of the initial expeditions we organized. The limited-time expedition culminated in players being able to claim the Normandy for their fleet.
Since that event, we have welcomed a plethora of Travellers, including a new wave of Switch players and an expanding community of Chinese fans. Many of these new players have admired those who proudly showcased their Normandy in their frigate collection.
Fans of Mass Effect understand that this legendary freighter appears only when direly needed! To pay homage from one science fiction game to another, for the next two weeks, we are offering everyone another chance to encounter the Normandy in an updated version of the original mission and add it to their collection.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our partners at EA and Bioware for helping make this collaboration possible.
This year has been monumental for No Man’s Sky in numerous ways. We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to continue this journey with all of you.
