PS5 Pro Scalpers Having to Sell Consoles at a Loss

PS5 Pro: Scalpers Selling at a Loss

It appears that the initial price tag of $699.99 for the average PS5 may have deterred some players, but now the PS5 Pro is on the market and is more readily available. Surprisingly, some scalpers are selling the new console at a loss.

PS5 Pro Availability Impact

According to Video Games Chronicle, eBay UK is flooded with listings of PS5 Pros priced below the retail price of £700. Buy It Now options are hovering around the £680 to £700 mark, while auction listings are even lower, ranging from £510 to £670.

A similar trend can be seen in Japan, where the resale site Mercari shows PS5 Pros being sold for up to ¥20,000 above retail price. However, because the site takes a 10% cut, scalpers are hardly making any profit.

Meanwhile, in the US, there are still some listings for the PS5 Pro above its retail price. Despite the console being available at major retailers like Target, Best Buy, and GameStop, some Buy It Now options are priced between $800 and $1000.

PS5 Disc Drive Still in Demand

Interestingly, the PS5 disc drive continues to sell at inflated prices on eBay. Since the PS5 Pro does not include a disc drive, new buyers are opting to purchase the accessory, with prices exceeding the normal $79.99 retail price.

Enhanced Gaming Experience

With the launch of the PS5 Pro, several games have been updated to take advantage of the enhanced console’s power. PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can explore these PS5 Pro enhanced titles through the PS Plus Game Catalog. Additionally, the November Savings promo offers discounts on a selection of enhanced games for PS5 Pro owners looking for something new to play.
