PS5 Pro Sales Off to a Great Start

PS5 Pro Exceeds PS4 Pro Launch Sales

With a price tag of $699.99 in the U.S., the PS5 Pro faced a major challenge in capturing the attention of gamers for a mid-generation upgrade. Despite this obstacle, the latest sales figures coming out of Japan indicate that the new and improved console has found a strong market among gamers.

Impressive Sales Figures

According to Famitsu’s weekly sales report from November 4 to November 10, 2024 (translated by Gematsu), the PS5 Pro achieved remarkable launch week sales in Japan, with 78,086 units sold. Unsurprisingly, the console claimed the top spot on the hardware sales chart, with the Nintendo Switch OLED following behind at 42,297 units and the Nintendo Switch Lite at 16,140 units. Even the base model of the PS5 managed to sell 8,571 units, while the digital edition sold 1,503 units. It’s worth noting that there are still some sales of the PS4, with 49 units sold.

Surpassing its Predecessor

Despite its premium price point, the PS5 Pro has managed to exceed the debut sales of its predecessor, the PS4 Pro, which launched in 2016. During its first week on the market, the PS4 Pro sold 65,194 units, making the PS5 Pro’s sales of 78,086 units an impressive feat.

Global Success

The success of the PS5 Pro stretches beyond Japan, as the console was the best-selling console on Amazon in several countries, including the U.S. and U.K., in October. Currently ranked 17 in the overall video games category, the PS5 Pro sits just below the PS5 Slim at 15. When factoring in VR headsets, the Meta Quest 3S claims the eighth spot.

Availability and Scalping

Fortunately, the PS5 Pro is readily available at various retailers, leading scalpers to sell the console at a loss due to its widespread availability. This accessibility has contributed to the strong sales figures the console has achieved so far.
