TCL QM7 Review

I’ve come to expect some compromises when it comes to TVs priced under $1,000. Whether it’s subpar sound, limited ports, or lackluster picture quality, there always seems to be a reason for the low price tag. However, TCL has changed the game with its QM7 model, offering a television that outperforms its competitors in almost every aspect.

TCL QM7 (2024) – Design and Build

The QM7 features a sleek design with thin bezels and a center-placed stand, typical of most modern TVs. Despite being an LED television, it is remarkably thin and lightweight, making it easy to set up in any living room. The Onkyo ultra-bass on the back enhances the audio quality, a rare feature in thin TVs.

On the connectivity front, the QM7 offers a good selection of ports, including multiple HDMI ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, USB ports, and more. The cable management system is also well thought out, keeping cables organized and out of sight.

TCL QM7 (2024) – The Remote

While the remote may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, it is functional and easy to use. Pre-loaded with useful shortcut buttons, the remote provides quick access to popular streaming apps. The only downside is the slightly confusing layout of some buttons.

Powered by Google TV, the QM7 offers a snappy and responsive user experience. The picture settings are customizable, with options for various viewing modes like Sports, Movie, Gaming, and HDR. The support for Dolby Vision, HDR 10, HDR 10+, and Hybrid Log Gamma ensures a vibrant and immersive viewing experience.

With a peak brightness of 1,500 nits and impressive color accuracy, the QM7 delivers excellent picture quality at an affordable price. While there may be some panel uniformity issues and halo-ing around bright objects, the overall viewing experience is top-notch.

As a gaming TV, the QM7 excels with its low input lag and vibrant display. The support for AMD Adaptive Sync via FreeSync Premium Pro enhances the gaming experience, making it suitable for both console and PC gaming.

Surprisingly, the built-in audio on the QM7 is impressive, offering clear mids and highs. While it may lack in bass, the TV can get loud without distortion. For a more immersive audio experience, a soundbar is recommended for movie enthusiasts.
