Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 banning mods in public online sessions due to “non-negligible” server instability

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Mod Ban Announcement

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 fans who enjoy adding mods to their game will need to take note of a recent announcement from developer Saber Interactive. The studio has decided to ban mods from public online sessions due to issues related to server instability. Even players who do not have mods installed have been experiencing problems.

In a message addressed to the community on Steam, game director Dmitriy Grigorenko acknowledged the positive impact of player-created mods on the game’s longevity. However, he also highlighted the importance of ensuring game stability for all players. The decision to prohibit mods from public online sessions comes as a response to data showing a significant amount of recent server stability issues being linked to mods. Additionally, there have been reports of save files getting corrupted after playing with modded players.

Despite the ban on mods in public online sessions, players can still enjoy mods in private Operations lobbies. Furthermore, mods will be allowed in custom Eternal War lobbies once they are launched. To make the process easier for modders, Saber Interactive will provide an entry point to their backend for games with mods installed, eliminating the need to hack the game executable after each patch. Additionally, the studio plans to give modders access to their tools for developing mods more efficiently in the future.

The upcoming December update for Space Marine 2 will introduce the Dark Angel Chapter Pack, the Tzaangor Enlightened enemy, and a new PvE map set on Demerium called Obelisk. For fans craving more Warhammer content, Games Workshop has confirmed that Amazon’s Secret Level series will feature an animated sequel to Space Marine 2.
