Here are the answers for today’s game #533 in NYT Connections:

  • YELLOW: ATTAIN – EARN, LAND, SCORE, WIN
  • GREEN: LARGE GROUP – CROWD, FLOCK, HOST, SEA
  • BLUE: PARTS OF A SHIP – ANCHOR, BOW, BRIDGE, DECK
  • PURPLE: ASSOCIATED PRINCIPLES IN CHINESE PHILOSOPHY – EXPANSIVE, LIGHT, MASCULINE, YANG

  • My rating: Moderate
  • My score: 1 mistake

Winning at Connections is rewarding, whether you solve it through skill or luck. It feels more satisfying to find the answer through knowledge rather than chance. I encountered a similar situation today with the purple group, ASSOCIATED PRINCIPLES IN CHINESE PHILOSOPHY, and it turned out to be a fortunate mistake.

I had already completed the blue group (PARTS OF A SHIP) and yellow group (ATTAIN) successfully. However, I mistakenly associated DECK with the green group instead of realizing it belonged to the blue group. After using one guess on the green group, I incorrectly linked the remaining words to opposites, which led me to the purple group. While my connection was a bit off, all guesses were valid.

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is a popular word game series developed by the New York Times. Players are tasked with identifying groups of four items that share a commonality, with each group varying in difficulty level: green being easy, yellow a bit more challenging, blue quite tough, and purple very difficult.

Players are allowed up to four mistakes, providing a bit of leeway. While it may not be necessary to solve the final group, the process of elimination can help reveal the answer. The game requires more involvement than Wordle and offers opportunities for tricky traps, such as homophones and wordplay.
