Pokémon Go’s next season has a Black and White theme, leading into next year’s Go Tour

Pokémon Go’s New Season: Dual Destiny

The upcoming season of Pokémon Go has been officially announced as Dual Destiny, set to begin on Tuesday, December 3rd. The logo for this season features a striking black and white theme, hinting at what’s to come for players. It’s no coincidence that the Pokémon Black and White region, Unova, is expected to be the focus of the upcoming Go Tour event series, which aligns perfectly with the Dual Destiny theme. Dual Destiny is scheduled to conclude on March 4th, coinciding with the anticipated Go Tour Unova event.

According to a press briefing by Niantic, the name Dual Destiny was chosen to symbolize “opposites coming together to strengthen one another and celebrate two sides of a whole.” This theme of unity and duality will likely be reflected in the gameplay and events of the upcoming season.

Teacup Pokémon Sinistea Makes Early Debut

One of the highlights of the Dual Destiny season is the early introduction of Sinistea, a teacup Pokémon with a unique twist. Sinistea has two different forms – Antique and Phony – based on whether it comes with a stamp of authenticity. This duality ties in perfectly with the overall theme of the season, showcasing how opposites can coexist in harmony.

For those unfamiliar with Sinistea, it is a Ghost-type Pokémon that first appeared in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Its appearance resembles a small chipped teacup, with a haunting backstory. Sinistea’s evolution, Polteageist, is described as having tea that “has a distinct and enjoyable flavor,” but cautioning that “drinking too much, however, can be fatal.”

New Features and Updates

As Dual Destiny kicks off, players can look forward to new additions and features in Pokémon Go. Red and Blue-striped Basculin will now be Shiny-possible and obtainable from 7km eggs. Interestingly, the form of Basculin you receive will be based on where the egg is hatched, not where it was sent from.

In addition, Gigantamax Lapras will make its debut in Max Battles, while the Go Battle League will feature avatar items inspired by Unova Elite Four member Grimsley. Several Pokémon, including Dragalge, Bibarel, Gliscor, Starmie, and others, will receive additional moves to enhance gameplay and strategy.
