The NES version of Tetris is coming to Nintendo Switch Online
It’s set for a December 12 release
The 1989 title joins the growing collection of classic Nintendo games on the subscription service
Nintendo has exciting news for fans as they have announced that the iconic NES version of Tetris will now be available on Nintendo Switch Online starting December 12.
In a recent announcement on Twitter, Nintendo revealed that the classic 1989 version of Tetris will be a new addition to their online subscription service next week.
This particular version of Tetris offers two distinct modes of play – A-Type and B-Type, each with its own set of objectives. In A-Type, players aim to achieve the highest score possible, while B-Type presents players with a board filled with randomized blocks at the bottom, challenging them to clear 25 lines.
To enjoy the NES version of Tetris, Nintendo Switch users will need to subscribe to Switch Online, with options available at $3.99 / £3.49 / €3.99 per month or $19.99 / £17.99 / €19.99 for a yearly membership. These subscriptions not only grant access to the NES version but also to collections of SNES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color games.
For those interested in accessing additional classic catalogs like Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Mega Drive/Genesis games, the Switch Online Expansion Pack is available for $49.99 / £34.99 / AU$59.95 for a 12-month pass.
Recently, in the November 2024 update, Nintendo also added three more Sega Genesis games to their service, including ToeJam & Earl: Panic on Funkotron, Vectorman, and Wolf of the Battlefield: Mercs.
With the inclusion of these new titles, the total number of Sega Genesis games in the collection now stands at 47.
