  • BLUE: W.N.B.A. TEAMS LIBERTY, STORM, SUN, WINGS

In the UK, when someone is being amiable – or perhaps not so much (it’s a fine line) – to a stranger in a pub, they would typically refer to them as “mate.” However, what stood out to me in today’s grid were some more polite ways to address an unknown individual. In a more formal setting, one might use terms like ASSOCIATE, AFFILIATE, or FELLOW, but what’s the fourth word for this formal group?

Keeping close to home, I easily identified FLY, CHUM, BAIT, and LURE for the GREEN group, indicating there must be an easier catch on the grid.

Connections has a way of humbling you, as I found myself shuffling through to uncover more sets. Initially thinking it was describing an animal, I selected HORN, WINGS, LEGS, and BOW but was off by one.

Abandoning the “mate” concept entirely, I took a guess and lucked out with the YELLOW group, and it was sheer chance rather than knowledge of the WNBA that led me home. However, it was far from a sure thing.

How did you fare today? Drop me a line and share your results.
