The Pokémon Company teams up with Aardman for special project
The Pokémon Company has announced a collaboration with Aardman, the makers of Wallace and Gromit, for a “special project” set to debut in 2027.
While details about the project remain scarce, Aardman is expected to bring its “unique style of storytelling to the Pokémon universe in brand-new adventures,” which could potentially include a film or TV series.
Aardman, renowned for its stop-motion Wallace and Gromit films, has also ventured into the world of video games with titles like Shaun the Sheep and Chicken Run spin-offs, along with the critically acclaimed 11-11: Memories Retold set during World War I.
“This is a dream partnership for Pokémon,” expressed Taito Okiura, VP of marketing and media at The Pokémon Company. “Aardman are masters of their craft, and we have been blown away by their talent and creativity. What we have been working on together ensures our global Pokémon fans are in for a treat!”
Sean Clarke, managing director of Aardman, added, “It’s a huge honour to be working with The Pokémon Company International – we feel sincerely privileged to be trusted with bringing their characters and world to life in a brand-new way. Bringing together Pokémon, the world’s biggest entertainment brand, together with our love of craft, character, and comedic storytelling feels incredibly exciting.”
The collaboration aims to create charming, original, and new stories that resonate with audiences worldwide, emphasizing heritage, attention to detail, and fan engagement.
It’s worth noting that Pokémon has previously seen a stop-motion adaptation with Netflix’s Pokémon Concierge series, following the adventures of Haru and a lovable Psyduck. Additionally, Pokémon TV is now streaming episodes of the anime on YouTube, just in time for the holiday season.
