Flint: Treasure of Oblivion – PC Review

Sailing the High Seas with Flint: Treasure of Oblivion

Sail into adventure with Flint: Treasure of Oblivion, a tactical RPG developed by Savage Level. Set in the golden age of piracy, players take on the role of Captain Flint and his shipmate Billy Bones. The game begins with you and Billy stranded on a floating piece of your wrecked ship, facing starvation. As you chase Billy around the wreckage to learn movement controls, a navy ship rescues you. However, upon reaching the mainland, the Captain throws both of you into prison, forcing you to escape and embark on a series of adventures.

Engaging Gameplay Elements

Players are free to explore the prison environment in Flint, with items of interest highlighted in yellow and NPCs denoted by an exclamation mark. The game relies on comic panels to tell the story, offering a unique visual style. Choices in dialogue impact the outcome of conversations, adding a layer of player agency to the narrative.

Combat in Flint is dice-based, with each character receiving two action points to move or engage in combat. Managing resources, such as re-rolls, becomes crucial for success in battles. Positioning and strategy play a key role in ensuring the survival of your characters, as losing a member forces a restart of the fight.

Progression and Customization

As players progress through the game, they discover better weapons and armor, gain new skills, and learn to craft health potions. Character development is tied to sharing wealth among the party rather than traditional experience points. Money earned is also used to purchase items and potions, adding a strategic element to resource management.

Immersive Pirate Experience

Flint delivers an immersive pirate experience through its music, story panels, and level design. The game captures the essence of piracy with its violent and treacherous narrative, allowing players to partake in mutinies and other acts of betrayal. While lacking a traditional tutorial, Flint encourages players to familiarize themselves with the game’s rules for a better understanding of its mechanics.
