Dead Space 4 Pitched to EA This Year but Was Denied
Dead Space has a special place in the hearts of horror game fans, being considered one of the most beloved titles in the genre. With the recent remake of the original game sparking excitement among fans, the possibility of a new entry in the franchise seemed to be on the horizon. However, hopes were dashed when it was revealed that Dead Space 4 was pitched to EA this year, only to be rejected.
In a recent interview with Dan Allen Gaming, original Dead Space creators Glen Schofield, Bret Robbins, and Christopher Stone shared that they approached EA with the idea of Dead Space 4 earlier this year. Unfortunately, the discussions did not progress far, and the pitch was swiftly turned down.
According to Schofield, EA’s response was along the lines of, “No, we’re not interested right now, we appreciate it, blah blah blah.” The creators respected EA’s decision and did not push further, acknowledging the company’s priorities and considerations.
Stone highlighted the cautious nature of the industry as a possible factor behind EA’s decision to refrain from greenlighting Dead Space 4. “The industry is in a weird place right now,” Stone said. “People are really hesitant to take chances on things, so you’ve got to you know, take it with a grain of salt. Who knows, maybe one day. I think we’d all love to do it.”
Although the Dead Space remake, released in January 2023, garnered critical acclaim with an 89 metascore on Metacritic and a 9 out of 10 rating from our reviewer Jason Faulkner, it fell short of EA’s sales projections. Reports earlier in the year suggested that Dead Space 4 or a remake of Dead Space 2 were in development at Motive. However, due to the underperformance of the remake, these projects were ultimately shelved.
