PS Portal Features Will Be Expanded Gradually, Sony Reiterates

Sony Plans Gradual Expansion of PlayStation Portal Features

Sony has announced that its portable gaming device, the PlayStation Portal, will continue to see incremental updates to expand its capabilities. One of the latest updates introduced cloud streaming to the device, enhancing the gaming experience for users.

Focus on User Experience

In a recent interview with GameFile, Sony Interactive Entertainment Vice President of Product Management Hiromi Wakai explained the company’s approach to expanding the PS Portal’s features gradually. Wakai emphasized the importance of prioritizing user experience to ensure that players receive the best possible gaming experience.

Wakai stated, “PS Portal was a new type of product for us, so we wanted to be extra careful to ensure our users get the best possible user experience. We want to continue that approach with PS Portal, and make incremental steps based on community reception on the beta.”

Increased Engagement

The technical performance of the streaming device is crucial, especially considering the high level of engagement from its player base. Wakai revealed that owners of the PS Portal tend to spend more time playing games compared to non-owners, indicating a strong interest in gaming among the device’s users.

Wakai noted, “Players who own a PS Portal tend to spend more time playing games than those who don’t. Our data shows that PS Portal owners are highly engaged in gaming activities.”

Usage Patterns

Sony’s data also revealed interesting usage patterns for the PS Portal, with usage peaking around 9 p.m. This suggests that players are transitioning from gaming on their TV to the portable device, extending their gaming sessions beyond traditional console playtime.

Success of PlayStation Portal

Despite initial skepticism, the PS Portal, which launched over a year ago, has proven to be a success for Sony. PlayStation boss Hideaki Nishino described the device’s sales as a “huge success” for the gaming giant and hinted at future options for players to enjoy gaming experiences.
