Wukong Dev Blames Xbox Series S for PS5 Exclusivity

Black Myth: Wukong Developer Blames Xbox Series S Optimization for Unintended PS5 Exclusivity

Game Science, the developer behind Black Myth: Wukong, has once again emphasized that issues with optimization on the Xbox Series S are responsible for the game’s unintended exclusivity on the PS5. Despite rumors circulating online about a secret exclusivity deal between Sony and the game, Game Science has debunked these claims and set the record straight.

Director Feng Ji Reflects on Achievements and Xbox Version

Director Feng Ji recently shared his thoughts on the recent Steam Awards on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, where Black Myth: Wukong won Game of the Year 2024. While celebrating the studio’s success, Feng Ji expressed regret over the absence of an Xbox version of the game.

“It seems a bit wrong but that 10GB shared memory, without a few years of optimization experience…” Feng Ji remarked, pointing to the memory limitations of the Xbox Series S as a key factor in the game’s absence on that platform.

Microsoft Denies Knowledge of Optimization Challenges

Despite speculation about Xbox platform limitations causing delays for Black Myth: Wukong, Microsoft has denied any knowledge of such issues. In a statement to Forbes, the company stated, “We’d prefer not to comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders but we can confirm that the delay is not due to Xbox platform limitations that have been raised to us.”

With this clarification from Microsoft, it’s clear that the rumors of a secret exclusivity deal with Sony are unfounded.
