Changes Coming to Pokémon Go in 2025
Pokémon Go players will kick off the year 2025 with a January Community Day featuring the grass cat creature Sprigatito. However, there is a slight twist this time around as the price for the monthly event’s optional ticket is set to increase.
Previously priced at 99p, $0.99, or €0.99, the ticket will now cost £1.99, $1.99, or €2.19. Despite the price hike, players will now receive a single Premium Battle Pass as part of the included rewards. This addition helps to offset the increased cost, as the Battle Passes individually cost £1.
The full list of rewards available with the revamped ticket has not been revealed yet. Players will only discover the rewards after purchasing the ticket and participating in the January Community Day event, which will begin in the Australia Pacific timezones.
About Pokémon Go’s Community Day Events
Pokémon Go’s Community Day is a popular monthly event that shines a spotlight on a specific creature, making it easier for players to catch, especially in its Shiny form. It serves as a gathering point for players to meet and play together.
Recent changes to the Community Day events include the removal of mini stories that used to accompany the featured Pokémon, much to the disappointment of fans. Additionally, the monthly ticket is no longer given for free to players who attend local events through a Niantic-approved community ambassador.
Furthermore, there have been gameplay changes, such as the absence of raids after the event’s three-hour window expires. This change aims to prevent the event from extending beyond its designated time, a decision influenced by player feedback.
New Features Added
Despite these alterations, a new feature has been introduced to Community Day events – timed research. This research rewards players with a week of additional encounters with the Community Day Pokémon, along with a seasonal background, if they log in and play daily over the following week.
Community Day events have been a staple of Pokémon Go since January 2018, occurring monthly (with the exception of March 2020). Players can refer to Eurogamer’s Community Day guide for a comprehensive list of past events.
