A New Guitar Hero Wii Controller Has Been Announced In The Year 2025

Guitar Hero Fans Rejoice! New Hyper Strummer Controller Coming to Wii

The beloved Guitar Hero franchise has been in a dormant state since the release of Guitar Hero Live back in 2015. However, fans of the iconic music rhythm game can rejoice as Hyperkin has announced the upcoming release of a new controller for the Wii platform, set to launch on January 8, 2025.

Named the Hyper Strummer, this updated version of the Wii Guitar controller is now available for pre-order. The Hyper Strummer is designed to be compatible with Wii’s Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles, offering players a nostalgic gaming experience. It should be noted that the first Rock Band game will not be supported by this new controller.

Priced at $77, the Hyper Strummer may be a bit expensive for some, but its design pays homage to the classic Guitar Hero controllers. Additionally, it is powered by the Wii remote, eliminating the need for separate batteries. While it remains uncertain how many players are still rocking out with Guitar Hero or Rock Band on the Wii in 2025, Hyperkin’s decision to develop this controller suggests there is still a dedicated fan base.

Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the fate of future Guitar Hero games now rests in their hands. Both Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer and Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick have hinted at the possibility of bringing Guitar Hero back, but as of now, there have been no concrete developments on that front. Despite being a finalist for the 2024 class of the Strong Museum’s Video Game Hall of Fame, Guitar Hero did not make the final cut that year.
