GTA 6 Expected to Break Records in 2025
Anticipation is mounting for the highly-anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is projected to be the biggest entertainment launch of the year. According to market research firm DFC Intelligence, the game is poised to generate over $1 billion in pre-orders alone, with a predicted total revenue of $3.2 billion in its first year. This would double the success of its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 5, in the same time frame.
CEO of IDF Consulting, Yoshio Osaki, shares the optimism surrounding GTA 6’s potential success, stating, “We think it’s going to be one of the biggest entertainment launches in history, not just in games but for all of media.” Osaki attributes this forecast to the unprecedented level of pent-up demand for the game.
The first trailer for GTA 6 premiered on December 4, 2023, and has already garnered over 231 million views on YouTube. Set in the fictionalized state of Leonida, the game will feature the iconic Vice City from previous installments and will follow protagonist Lucia and her partner as they evade the law.
Rockstar Games has confirmed a ‘fall 2025’ release window for GTA 6, although a specific launch date has yet to be announced. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
Aside from the highly-anticipated GTA 6, the gaming industry is gearing up for a monumental year in 2025. The imminent reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to make waves in the market, accompanied by major releases like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
