Shadow The Hedgehog Build-A-Bears Are Getting Scalped For Ridiculous Prices

Shadow the Hedgehog Build-a-Bear Sold Out and Skyrocketing in Price

Since Shadow the Hedgehog made his appearance in the trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, it was clear that Sega’s antihero was going to be a fan favorite. However, no one could have predicted the impact this would have on the Build-a-Bear line for Sonic 3.

According to Kotaku, Shadow’s Build-a-Bear is completely sold out and being resold on eBay for exorbitant prices ranging from $300 to $1,500. The highest recorded sale on eBay for a Shadow Build-a-Bear is over $600. This is a significant markup compared to other available characters, with Tails being an online exclusive and Sonic available both online and in stores.

Despite the high demand, Shadow has been removed from the Build-a-Bear website, and there are no plans to restock the character. This decision seems puzzling considering the clear demand for Shadow merchandise. The only way to reduce the inflated prices on the secondary market would be to increase supply to match the demand.

The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has seen immense success, surpassing $1 billion at the box office, with the announcement of Sonic 4 set for release in 2027. Jim Carrey has expressed interest in reprising his role as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, and it is likely that Keanu Reeves will return as the voice of Shadow. Reeves recently voiced Shadow in the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack DLC for Sonic x Shadow Generations. Additionally, Shadow now has his own wireless Switch controller available, which is more affordable than his Build-a-Bear counterpart.
