Rebel Wolves Unveils Opening Moments of Debut Game: The Blood of Dawnwalker
In February of 2022, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, known for his work on The Witcher 3, joined forces with other seasoned developers to create Rebel Wolves. The studio’s first game, The Blood of Dawnwalker, was teased last month. Now, Rebel Wolves has released a trailer showcasing the initial scenes of the game, setting the stage for a story of a valley in medieval Europe under the control of vampires.
The trailer introduces the protagonist, Coen, on a mission to rescue his sister, Lunka, who is afflicted by a plague and faces execution by human authorities. Their fate takes a turn when Brencis and his vampire companions intervene, saving them from the guards. Brencis heals Lunka and proclaims the vampires’ dominance over the valley.
This particular scene serves as a prelude to the game’s main storyline. Two years into the vampire rule, Coen, known as Dawnwalker due to his resistance to full vampirism from silver poisoning, leads a life straddling between humanity during the day and fierce vampiric powers at night.
While the developers emphasize the narrative freedom players will experience in The Blood of Dawnwalker, there is a sense of urgency. Coen has a limited 30 days and nights to rescue his family imprisoned by Brencis. Time management becomes crucial as players must decide how to allocate their time wisely. Choices also extend to forging alliances with individuals who share a common goal of overthrowing the vampire regime, though not everyone’s motives will align with Coen’s.
Revealed by the developers is the presence of human supporters for the vampires, grateful for protection and healing from the plague provided by Brencis. However, the vampires’ treatment of humans as mere livestock, confined to the valley and subjected to their whims, paints a grim picture of their power structure.
While a release date for The Blood of Dawnwalker is still pending, gamers can anticipate a gameplay reveal later this summer.
