The OG Mega Man Is Getting The ‘Hand-Drawn Game Guide’ Treatment

The Legendary Mega Man Receives a Hand-Drawn Game Guide

Artist and writer Phillip Summers is back with another edition of the ‘Hand-Drawn Game Guide’ series, this time focusing on the iconic and challenging action game Mega Man.

This officially licensed book, funded on Kickstarter in just 12 hours, is set to launch in August 2025 for backers. It will feature over 200 pages of hand-drawn artwork showcasing the original Mega Man game for the NES and Game Boy. The book will include character illustrations, full level maps, tips, tricks, and beautiful two-page spreads.

One unique aspect of this project is the absence of any AI in the creation process. All the content in the book is crafted using traditional art tools, with only the scanning process requiring digital assistance for page layout.

If you’re interested in supporting Summers’ project, there’s still time to make a pledge. Digital versions of the book are available for £16/$19, while physical copies can be secured for £24/$29. The Kickstarter campaign also hints at the possibility of more guides for Mega Man sequels and spin-offs if this project is successful. In the meantime, let’s get a sneak peek at some pages from the book.

While Mega Man fans eagerly await news of a new entry in the series, the franchise has been quiet since the release of Mega Man 11 in 2018. However, Capcom has expressed its interest in creating games for the franchise regularly, hinting at potential developments in the future.
