Nintendo Launches ‘Better eShop’ as Improved Alternative to Nintendo’s Online Store
- New Features Include Content Filters, Enhanced Discoverability, and Faster Load Times
- Created in Response to Community Feedback on Nintendo’s Current eShop
Nintendo recently unveiled ‘Better eShop’, a revamped version of their online store aimed at providing users with a more streamlined and enjoyable experience.
The idea for ‘Better eShop’ was born out of a survey conducted by Nintendo Life, where users were asked to share their thoughts on the current eShop layout and functionality. Many Switch players had voiced concerns about the cluttered interface and overwhelming number of games available.
According to the About page of the new platform, “The Nintendo Switch eShop has seen minimal updates since its launch in 2017. The influx of new ‘games’ has made it difficult to navigate, resembling more of a spam-filled marketplace. Users have been eagerly anticipating changes, which are unlikely to come until the release of Switch 2.”
‘Better eShop’ addresses these concerns by introducing customizable content filters, improved discoverability features, and user reviews to help gamers make more informed decisions. The new platform boasts faster load times, a dark mode option, and enhanced mobile optimization. Users can also purchase music from Wii and Wii U, as well as add items to a shopping cart for easier transactions.
Future updates for ‘Better eShop’ are already in the works, including wishlist functionality, advanced screenshot displays, user reviews aggregation, publisher muting, and expanded regional support. Currently, the platform is accessible in the US, UK, and the EU.
Developed in less than a week, ‘Better eShop’ leverages the Nintendo Life game database to provide an up-to-date selection of titles and information for users.
The About page also states, “Data is sourced from multiple channels and is updated daily. While there is a possibility of Nintendo restricting our access to data, we are committed to enhancing ‘Better eShop’ for as long as we can.”
