Riot Games Introduces Twitch Subscriptions for League of Legends Esports

Riot Games has announced a new initiative to introduce Twitch subscriptions across various channels that broadcast League of Legends esports. The goal of this initiative is to enhance the viewing experience for fans while also providing support to the leagues and teams involved.

Subscribers will receive several benefits, including ad-free viewing and access to a Subscriber-only chat where they can engage in exclusive discussions during broadcasts. Additionally, Tier 1 Subscribers will receive exclusive in-game rewards, starting with the ‘Why Though?’ emote for the first Split of 2025.

This subscription program kicked off with the LCP’s Japanese Twitch channel and will soon expand to other LCP channels, the LEC, LTA, and LCK between January 15th and January 18th. It’s important to note that the rewards are only available for paid and gifted subscriptions, excluding Prime subscriptions.

Furthermore, the emotes that subscribers receive can be used across all Twitch channels, offering a consistent experience for users. Riot Games highlighted that this initiative allows fans to directly support their favorite leagues, with a portion of the revenue from Twitch subscriptions going to the Global Revenue Pool, benefiting leagues and teams worldwide.

The rollout of Twitch subscriptions follows a successful test conducted in August 2024 during the LCS playoffs. This test provided Riot Games with valuable insights into features that could enhance the viewing experience for League of Legends esports fans.

With the first splits of League of Legends tournaments underway in EMEA, the Americas, China, and Korea, the focus will soon shift to the inaugural First Stand event scheduled for March.
