XO, Kitty’s second season might be as gloriously chaotic as the first

Kitty Song Covey — the main protagonist of XO, Kitty and a supremely chaotic bisexual teenager on Netflix — is making a return, and I am eagerly anticipating the wild adventures she embarks on this season, given how outrageously entertaining the first season was.

The show serves as a spinoff from Netflix’s To All the Boys movie trilogy, which in turn is based on Jenny Han’s young adult romance book series. In contrast to the more grounded To All the Boys movies, XO, Kitty takes things to a whole new level of craziness in the best way possible.

[Ed. note: This post contains spoilers for season 1 of XO, Kitty.]

Kitty: The Drama Queen

It’s a teen drama where every plot point is just taken to its most ridiculous extreme. Despite being remarkably chaste, with no explicit content, the show still manages to amp up the drama to comically high levels. It’s like watching a soap opera combined with High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, creating a unique and enjoyable viewing experience.

Plot Twist Galore

The first season follows Kitty’s adventures at an international school in Korea, uncovering dark secrets from her mother’s past. Her unapologetic nature leads her down a path of mischief, adding a layer of unpredictability to the typical teen soap opera narrative.

Love Triangles and More

Love triangles are nothing new in teen dramas, but XO, Kitty takes this trope to a whole new level with intricate relationship dynamics and unexpected twists. Season 1 ended with Kitty’s romantic future hanging in the balance, setting the stage for more complex entanglements in season 2.

Unhinged Drama

The show is packed with unhinged drama, from dormitory mishaps to academic struggles and family conflicts. Each character brings their own brand of chaos, creating a vortex of entertaining and absurd scenarios. Kitty, in particular, emerges as the show’s resident wrecking ball.

Anticipating Season 2

While the hyperbolic nature of the show initially caught me off guard, I now appreciate its high-energy and relentless pace. I’m eagerly awaiting season 2 to dive back into Kitty’s tumultuous world and witness the insanity that is sure to unfold.

Both seasons of XO, Kitty are available on Netflix for streaming.
