Destiny 2: Heresy Will Be Missing Some Voice Content Because Of The Ongoing Actors Strike

Destiny 2: Heresy Expansion Faces Voice Actor Strike

Last year, SAG-AFTRA initiated a voice actors strike against video game publishers due to various issues, including AI protections. Despite reaching agreements with some publishers, the strike continues. Bungie has now confirmed that the upcoming Destiny 2: Heresy expansion will have scenes with missing spoken dialogue as a deal with actors has not been finalized.

In a recent update on Bungie’s official site, the developer explained that “certain voice lines” were not recorded due to the ongoing strike. To address this, Destiny 2 will default to subtitles in these scenes to keep the narrative flowing without the audio. The update also mentions that any activities in Heresy lacking voice overs will display a warning on-screen before beginning. However, it remains unclear if these lines will be recorded once the strike is resolved.

On Bluesky, a voice actor using the pseudonym Orchid reiterated the actors’ stance on the situation, emphasizing their need for a fair deal that addresses their concerns about AI.

For everyone complaining: we’re still on strike. We would like to work, but until we get a fair deal, our concerns regarding AI addressed, etc, we will not. I’m sorry this affects your games, but it also affects our ability to pay our rent and grocery bills.

Destiny 2 is not the only game experiencing repercussions from the strikes. Hideo Kojima has revealed that his upcoming projects, including OD and Physint, are also facing challenges in recording necessary dialogue from performers.

Regarding Destiny 2, the Heresy expansion is set to launch on February 4, featuring a return to the Dreadnaught. Players can expect a new dungeon, Sundered Doctrine, and a special collaboration with Star Wars that introduces gear, armor ornaments, accessories, emotes, and finishers inspired by iconic characters from the Empire, such as Death Troopers and Imperial Guards.
