Bloodborne 60 FPS Mod Struck Down by Sony Years After Release

For years, fans of From Software have been clamoring for a Bloodborne remaster. After a fan-created patch allowed the game to run at 60 frames per second in 2021, Sony has now issued a notice to shut it down.

Is a Bloodborne remaster on the horizon?

According to Bloodborne mod creator Lance McDonald, Sony Interactive Entertainment sent a DMCA takedown notification requesting the removal of links to the 60 fps patch. McDonald has complied with the request and the mod links are no longer available.

“On February 21st, 2021, I created and released a patch for Bloodborne which makes the game run at 60fps,” stated McDonald. “Today I received a DMCA takedown notification on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment asking that I remove links to the patch I posted on the internet, so I’ve now done so.”

McDonald further elaborated by sharing a video demonstrating the patch in action and explaining its functionality. He also shared a humorous anecdote of his encounter with former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida.

“I met [Shuhei Yoshida] and said to him, ‘I make mods for PlayStation games,’ and he said, ‘oh!’ And I said ‘I made the 60 fps mod for bloodborne,’ and he laughed so hard.”

With the mod being available for almost four years, the question arises as to why SIE decided to take action now. Could this mean that a Bloodborne remaster is on the horizon? Bluepoint, known for their remake of From Software’s Demon’s Souls, might be a potential candidate for such a project. Alternatively, SIE may simply be enforcing their rights. Only time will reveal the fate of the much-anticipated remaster.
