We were thrilled when Bugbear Entertainment announced the sequel to their popular demolition derby racer, Wreckfest. Now, the excitement continues as Wreckfest 2 is set to launch into Steam early access on 20th March.
Bugbear describes Wreckfest 2 as the “next evolution of full-contact racing”, promising an overhauled physics engine, more detailed component damage simulation, and even higher crash fidelity for ultimate vehicular mayhem.
Players can look forward to a variety of courses in high-speed circuits, crazy courses with obstacles and jumps, and intersections with oncoming traffic. Initially available in Racing, Derby, and multiplayer mode for up to 34 players, more courses will be added over time. Updates during the early access phase will introduce a revamped career mode tailored to different playstyles, skill-based matchmaking, and server queues for online players.
To prepare for the chaotic races, players can customize their cars with new armor and component types to suit their style of play. More parts will be added as early access progresses, alongside tournaments, high-score challenges in unconventional vehicles, and mod support.
Bugbear emphasizes that player feedback will shape the development of Wreckfest 2 during early access. While there is no set timeframe for the early access phase, the original Wreckfest spent four years in early access, resulting in a game praised for its primal pleasures and lack of pretension.
If you’re eager to jump into Wreckfest 2 as it speeds towards the early access finish line, mark your calendars for 20th March on Steam.
