Dota Heroes: Lost Identity in the Meta
Dota continues to evolve, with new meta developments arising even during balance update droughts. Today, we focus on heroes who have lost parts of what made them unique, shifting away from their original design.
While these heroes are still popular and viable, they are being utilized in ways not initially intended by their design. This is the beauty of Dota, allowing for player expression and creativity in hero roles.
Dazzle’s Evolution
Over the years, Dazzle has undergone reworks and changes. Once a go-to save support with unique abilities like Weave, Dazzle’s role has shifted. Now, he is often seen in core roles, utilizing Aghanim’s for scaling damage. This departure from his original design has led to a decline in his presence in professional matches and higher level pubs.
Despite attempts to address his issues with Facets, Dazzle remains caught between being a support and a core hero, waiting for a true comeback to the meta.
Invoker’s Universal Identity
Invoker’s transition to a “Universal” hero seems odd given his lore as an “arsenal magus.” While it may make sense within the Dota universe, seeing him built as a right-clicking carry with items like Wraith Band and Manta Style feels off. Many players would prefer to see him return as an Intelligence hero, with adjustments to his abilities to compensate for his potential lack of right-clicking power.
Muerta’s Misplaced Role
Muerta, with her strong auto-attack capabilities, is often played as a support despite her potential as a carry. Factors like her Intelligence attribute and lack of mobility hinder her ability to fulfill her intended role. Swapping attributes between heroes like Muerta and Invoker could lead to more fitting and satisfying gameplay experiences.
