Surprise! Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Now Has A Switch eShop Demo

Switch eShop Demo for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Released

Recently, Nintendo surprised fans by dropping a demo for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD on the Switch eShop.

This marks the third release of the game, following its debut on the Wii in 2010 and subsequent port to the 3DS in 2013. The demo offers a taste of the game with access to three levels in the first world, albeit without progress carrying over to the full version.

Details about the demo: “This demo provides the modern play experience with additional hearts and expanded item storage. The full game includes the original mode, offering a more challenging gameplay with fewer hearts and limited item storage.”

Additionally, players in the demo version receive special items to aid in reaching the end of each level.

In our review last month, when the game returned to the Switch, we gave it a rating of seven out of ten, highlighting its enjoyable gameplay but also noting that it felt more like a port than a remaster.

“Donkey Kong Country Returns HD serves as a solid way to experience the 2010 classic, although it lacks compelling reasons for existing fans to repurchase aside from the improved controls. It leans toward being a port rather than a fully-fledged remaster, especially considering its premium price.”
