Civ 7 isn’t even out yet and there’s already a mod fixing its UI

Players Express Criticisms of Sid Meier’s Civilization 7

Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 is set to launch on Tuesday, but players are already voicing their concerns about the game’s user interface and missing features from previous titles in the franchise. Firaxis has acknowledged these criticisms and announced plans for future updates. However, one dedicated player who had early access to the game has taken matters into their own hands by creating a mod to address some of these issues.

Introducing the Simple UI Adjustments Mod

The Simple UI Adjustments mod, created by Sukritact, introduces helpful tooltips when hovering over tiles in the game. These tooltips include information about wonders located on specific tiles, yield icons on undeveloped tiles, and the ability to initiate diplomacy with other civilizations by clicking on their city banners. While the changes may seem minor, they eliminate the need to constantly refer to the Civilopedia or navigate through multiple menus.

Installing the Mod

Since Civilization 7 is not yet available to all players, there is no Steam Workshop page for mod downloads. However, installing this mod is a simple process of placing the required folder in your Civ 7 mods directory, typically located at “{user}AppDataLocalFiraxis GamesSid Meier’s Civilization VIIMods”. To confirm that the mod is correctly installed, check the Mods menu under “Additional Content,” where the mod should be listed as enabled.

Unlocking Civilizations with Mods

Despite the game only being accessible to early access players since February 6, Sukritact has also created a mod for Civilization 7 that removes the unlock requirements for all civilizations. Typically, civilization unlocks are tied to specific leaders and milestones during different ages, but this mod eliminates those restrictions.

Looking to the Modding Community

Although Civilization 7 may have launched without certain features like the ability to rename cities or units, the modding community is working tirelessly to fill in the gaps. With the rapid pace of mod development, it’s likely that players won’t have to wait long for these missing elements to be added to the game.
