PS Plus Users Continue to Spend Money on Higher Tiers

Although Xbox Game Pass is widely recognized as a top-notch gaming deal, Sony’s online subscription service is not to be overlooked. In addition to its monthly games for Essential tier subscribers, PS Plus Extra and Premium members have access to the Games Catalog, a carefully curated selection of quality games for both the PS4 and PS5. Premium members also enjoy the added bonus of the Classics Catalog, which enables them to play a variety of PS1 and PS2 games at no extra cost. This strategic move has proven successful, as the company has reported a rise in revenue from the online service thanks to users upgrading to higher tiers.

PS Plus revenue up 20% this quarter due to users upgrading to higher tiers

The latest data from Sony’s third quarter financial report for the 2024 fiscal year reveals a significant 20% year-on-year revenue increase attributed to users moving to higher tiers. This indicates that a considerable number of players have likely opted for the more costly PS Plus tiers such as Extra or Premium.

According to the report, “As for PlayStation Plus, revenue in the quarter increased 20% year-on-year on a U.S. dollar basis, primarily due to an increase in average revenue per user (“ARPU”) mainly due to a shift to higher tiers of service and the impact of price revisions.”

PS Plus continues to deliver impressive titles to its Games Catalog for Extra and Premium subscribers. Most recently, Sony announced at the State of Play event that the critically acclaimed action game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be available on the service starting February 18. The company also revealed that the upcoming narrative adventure game Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is set to launch on the same date. Premium users will also be delighted to find the fan-favorite PSP classic Patapon 3 added to the Classics Catalog.
