Ruiner studio’s next cyberpunk shooter Metal Eden is Doom meets Ghostrunner

The Future of Cyberpunk Shooters: Metal Eden Revealed

The team behind the intense cyberpunk action game Ruiner has unveiled their latest project, Metal Eden. This upcoming game was showcased during PlayStation’s State of Play event, and it is set to release on 6th May 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

In Metal Eden, players will take on the role of Aska, a run and gun android exploring the mysterious world of Mobius. As Aska, you’ll have the unique ability to extract enemy power cores, using them as grenades or consuming them for a temporary power boost. This mechanic adds a layer of strategy to the fast-paced shooting gameplay.

A Blend of Ghostrunner and Doom

If you’re a fan of Ghostrunner and Doom, Metal Eden may catch your interest. The game combines the ‘move or die’ urgency of Doom with the futuristic, abstract environments reminiscent of Ghostrunner. However, after playing a demo of Metal Eden, some aspects felt familiar and may not offer a truly distinct experience.

Challenging Gameplay and Intense Combat

Metal Eden’s gameplay is demanding, requiring players to navigate through narrow platforms and engage in fast-paced combat scenarios. While the game provides a health bar for survivability, encounters with waves of enemies can be overwhelming. The shooting mechanics, while effective, lack a sense of impact and excitement.

Aska’s movement abilities, including dodging and limited jet pack usage, add agility to the gameplay. However, the tight spaces and constant threats can lead to challenging moments where precise movements are crucial.

Looking Ahead to Metal Eden’s Release

While the initial impressions of Metal Eden may not fully showcase its potential depth, there is hope that the full game will offer a more nuanced experience. As the game prepares to launch alongside Doom: The Dark Ages, it will be interesting to see how Metal Eden stands out in the competitive shooter genre.
