EA is releasing the source code for Command & Conquer and adding Steam Workshop support to further ’empower’ the community to create content for the classic games

The fully recovered source code for Command & Conquer is getting a public release

EA has made an exciting announcement for fans of Command & Conquer by releasing the fully recovered source code for the game. This release includes the source code for Tiberian Dawn, C&C Red Alert, C&C Renegade, and C&C Generals + Zero Hour under the GPL license.

Steam Workshop Support

In addition to the source code release, EA has introduced Steam Workshop support for several Command & Conquer titles. This support allows players to upload their custom maps for games like C&C Renegade, Generals and Zero Hour, C&C 3 Tiberium Wars and Kane’s Wrath, Red Alert 3, Uprising, and C&C 4 Tiberian Twilight.

C&C Modding Support Pack

Moreover, a ‘C&C Modding Support’ pack has been released containing source Xml, Schema, Script, Shader, and Map files for all games using the SAGE engine. This will provide modders with the tools they need to create amazing content and mods for the Command & Conquer franchise.

Luke “CCHyper” Feenan, a key player in the Command & Conquer community, shared these details on Reddit and expressed his excitement about these initiatives, which were initially his own ideas following the success of the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection in 2020.

To celebrate this milestone, Jim Vassella, producer of Command & Conquer Remastered Collection, revealed rare gameplay footage from the early development stages of C&C Renegade and C&C Generals. Fans can now enjoy watching this footage in a compilation format.
