NYT Connections Today: The Answers

Here are the answers to today’s Connections, game #638:

  • YELLOW: CAT BREEDS – RAGAMUFFIN, RUSSIAN BLUE, SPHYNX, TURKISH ANGORA
  • GREEN: FAMOUS SMILES – CHESHIRE CAT, COMEDY MASK, JOKER, MONA LISA
  • BLUE: ATTRACTIONS ICONICALLY DIFFERENT FROM THEIR ORIGINAL FORMS – LIBERTY BELL, STATUE OF LIBERTY, TOWER OF PISA, VENUS DE MILO
  • PURPLE: ASSOCIATED WITH “THE DUDE” LEBOWSKI – BATHROBE, BOWLING, RUG, WHITE RUSSIAN

  • My rating: Hard
  • My score: 2 mistakes

Even with an inkling of the CAT BREEDS category from the start, I still had some challenges. Mistakenly, I initially placed WHITE RUSSIAN instead of RAGAMUFFIN. Recognizing it as The Dude’s drink helped me correct my error.

But that wasn’t the end of my blunders. Despite identifying Tourist Attractions as a common thread, I attempted to group MONA LISA with LIBERTY BELL instead of the correct choice, which I suspect was part of today’s trickery to confuse players.

The theme of FAMOUS SMILES, excluding Mona Lisa and CHESHIRE CAT, was quite a stretch. While the JOKER fits, including COMEDY MASK seemed like a challenge.

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is a popular word game created by the New York Times. The game tasks players with identifying groups of four items that share a common characteristic. The difficulty levels vary, with green being easy, yellow a bit harder, blue often challenging, and purple very difficult.

Players are allowed up to four mistakes, providing some room for error. Additionally, you can deduce the final group by process of elimination.

Unlike simpler games like Wordle, NYT Connections may include tricks and wordplay to throw off players. Watch out for homophones and other linguistic nuances that could lead you astray.

You can play this game for free on the NYT Games website on both desktop and mobile devices.
