- New Performance modes revealed for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on PS5 Pro
- Experience a variety of modes including Performance, Fidelity, and Balanced
- Enhanced ray tracing options available for PS5 Pro users
Ubisoft has provided a breakdown of the performance modes available for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on the PS5 Pro. The focus is primarily on the enhanced capabilities of the upgraded hardware, including the introduction of ‘extended’ ray tracing.
According to an official post on the PlayStation Blog, players can expect three distinct performance modes on both the PS5 and PS5 Pro: Performance, Fidelity, and Balanced.
Across both consoles, these performance modes offer similar features, aiming for an upscaled 2160p (4K) resolution. The targeted frame rates vary, with 60fps in Performance mode, 30fps in Fidelity mode, and 40fps in Balanced mode (optimized for displays with variable refresh rates and HDMI 2.1 support).
The key difference between the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions lies in ray tracing capabilities. While Performance mode on the standard console includes ‘selective’ ray tracing limited to the Hideout area, Fidelity and Balanced modes on the PS5 Pro feature ‘standard’ and ‘extended’ ray tracing, respectively, covering the entire game world with improved global illumination effects.
It appears that ray tracing will receive a boost for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on the PS5 Pro. Performance mode delivers a standard ray tracing experience, while Fidelity and Balanced modes introduce ‘extended’ ray tracing, offering full support for ray tracing to enhance global illumination effects throughout the game.
There is currently no information on whether players will have the option to disable ray tracing to potentially improve performance in each of the three modes. While ray tracing enhances visuals, some players may prioritize consistent performance.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to release on March 20, 2025, for the PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
