The Legacy of Fate: Celebrating 20 Years of Dungeon Crawling
May will mark two decades since the inception of the Fate franchise. Originating in 2005, players have embraced the heroic journey through the Dungeon Gate, conquering its myriad creatures along the way. Across the years, this iconic dungeon crawler series has not only defined childhoods but also served as an inspiration for upcoming game developers, leaving an indelible mark on the action RPG genre. Interestingly, the creators of Fate went on to develop Torchlight, another widely successful dungeon crawler.
The Rise of Fate
Upon its initial release, Fate represented a beacon of innovation for the action RPG genre. In a landscape dominated by dark and somber RPG titles, Fate stood out with its vibrant and colorful art style, appealing particularly to younger audiences and families.
Surprisingly, Fate was once pre-installed on certain Windows computers, making it incredibly accessible and contributing to its rise in popularity over the years. Players were drawn to the infinite challenges presented by the dungeon depths and the delightful pet companions that could accompany them on their adventures.
An Idea is Sparked
The journey to revisit Fate commenced around 2019 when gamigo acquired WildTangent, the original publishers of the Fate series. Despite facing delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, it was imperative for us to approach the project with meticulous deliberation. Eventually, the decision was made to honor Fate’s 20th Anniversary with a remaster that would reignite the nostalgic essence of the franchise.
While Fate’s gameplay remains timeless, we recognized the importance of modernizing it to reach contemporary gaming platforms. Prior to Fate: Reawakened, the series was limited to PC platforms. Expanding to consoles and offering additional language support opened doors to a new audience that had yet to experience the enchanting world of Fate.
A Delicate Undertaking
Reviving a beloved series is no small feat, and altering Fate’s core essence was never a consideration. Our primary objective with Fate: Reawakened was to enhance what already made the franchise exceptional, elevating it to new heights while preserving its essence.
Reawakening Your Inner Hero
Fate: Reawakened is not just a remaster; it’s a heartfelt tribute to the series and its devoted community. Witnessing the enduring passion of players who continue to express their dedication is truly inspiring. As we embark on the next chapter of the Fate franchise, we invite you to rediscover the hero within you. Are you prepared to shape your Fate?
Fate: Reawakened releases on Xbox Series X|S on Wednesday, March 12 and is available for wishlisting on the Microsoft Store for Xbox.
