The LoL inaugural global tournament showcased another impressive performance by one of the leading esports games of 2025.

Team Liquid emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Karmine Corp in the opening match of League of Legends First Stand on March 10, 2025.

Esports Charts reported that the live stream, lasting four hours, peaked at over 700,000 viewers and maintained an average viewership of 400,000.

First Stand brings together the top teams from the EU and NA regions in a storied rivalry with a $1 million prize pool. Winning can also pave the way for teams to qualify for prestigious tournaments like the Esports World Cup.

Team Liquid’s Strong Start at First Stand

Team Liquid initially took the lead in the first round, faced setbacks in the second, and clinched victory in a closely contested third round.

  • Game 1: Team Liquid established an early lead by defeating Karmine Corp with a score of 1-0
  • Game 2: Karmine Corp fought back and tied the score at 1-1
  • Game 3: Team Liquid secured the win, ending the match with a score of 2-1

After the match, Team Liquid’s League of Legends coach, Jake ‘Spawn’ Tiberi, reflected on the team’s performance: “I’m actually happy Game 2 happened because it showed us the importance of following the game plan. We need to stick to our strategy and adapt accordingly.”

For this match, Team Liquid banned Viktor, Rumble, Yone, and Kalista, while Karmine Corp effectively countered Ziggs, Draven, and Taliyah.

Karmine Corp’s French bot laner, Caliste ‘Caliste’ Henry-Hennebert, expressed a mix of disappointment and optimism after the loss: “It’s a bit disappointing to have lost, but this was our first international appearance. We’ve had limited time for practice and have felt the pressure, but we’ll bounce back in the next match against CFO.”
