Suikoden 2 is a classic video game that centers around recruiting 108 characters known as the Stars of Destiny to help in the battle against the Kingdom of Highland. However, many of these characters are missable, and the game can be quite challenging when it comes to recruitment. Luckily, we have put together a spoiler-free guide below to help you ensure that you capture all the characters in the game as early as possible.

How Recruitment Works in Suikoden 2

In Suikoden 2, unlike the original game, recruiting many characters requires completing short side quests, making it more difficult to fill your roster. The guide below lists the characters in the order you can recruit them earliest and provides alternate recruitment requirements for some characters.

Spoiler-free Suikoden 2 Recruitment Walkthrough

Below is a list of all missable Suikoden 2 characters, as well as a few optional characters that do not count towards the 108 Stars of Destiny:

  1. Riou: The main character of the game.
  2. Mukumuku: Find the large tree north of Riou’s home in Kyaro and examine it.
    • Alternate: If you miss recruiting Mukumuku in Kyaro, you can encounter him randomly on the road between Two River and Greenhill during battle.
  3. Nanami: Joins during the story.
  4. Gengen: Joins during the story.
  5. Zamza: Put Nanami in your party and speak with him at Toto Inn.
    • Alternate: Zamza can also be found at South Window Inn later in the game.

Optional Characters

  • Abizboah: Can be recruited in Tinto Mine if you did not recruit Sigfried.
  • Boris: Available at HQ if Ridley dies before joining your party in Tinto.

The Squirrels

  • Makumaku: Recruited after Mukumuku on the road between Two River and Greenhill.
  • Mikumiku: Recruited after Makumaku on the road between Greenhill and the Forest Path.

Tir McDohl

If you load completed save data from the original Suikoden, you can start a side quest in Banner Village to recruit Tir McDohl. However, he is not a permanent party member.

Miscellaneous

  • Rulodia: Can be found after recruiting Abizboah by using a Listening Crystal.
