Extremely OK Games’ Earthblade was unfortunately cancelled earlier this year due to disputes over the IP rights of Celeste, their previous hit game. Despite the cancellation, composer Lena Raine has released a stunning “concept album” titled ‘EARTHBLADE ~ Across the Bounds of Fate’, featuring nine new tracks inspired by Vangelis, Joe Hisaishi, and Yoko Kanno.
The album is now available on Bandcamp and offers a glimpse into the world that Earthblade would have created. Lena Raine describes it as more than just a soundtrack, but a dynamic journey that captures the essence of the game’s emotional arc.
For fans of Raine’s work on Celeste, Chicory, and Deltarune, this album is a must-listen. While Earthblade will never see the light of day, the composer hints at revisiting this creative vision in future projects.
In a blog post earlier this year, Extremely OK Games’ founder, Maddy Thorson, expressed mixed feelings about the game’s cancellation but emphasized the team’s commitment to rediscovering the magic of game development.
