“Waylay won’t be as effective as Tejo,” Zellsis on VALORANT Meta

Zellsis Shares Thoughts on New VALORANT Agent Waylay

Recently, Riot Games introduced a new duelist agent named Waylay to the VALORANT roster, just two months after the release of Tejo. This addition has caused a stir among pros and coaches who are struggling to adapt to the rapidly shifting meta. With back-to-back events on the horizon, the unpredictability of the game has made it challenging for teams to stay ahead.

In a post-match press conference at Masters Bangkok, Sentinels head coach Adam ‘kaplan’ Kaplan expressed his concerns about the overwhelming changes happening in the game. The addition of Waylay, along with two map changes for Stage 1, has created an environment where fatigue is a real issue for players.

Esports Insider reached out to Jordan ‘Zellsis’ Montemurro for his opinion on the current VALORANT meta and the impact of the new agent, Waylay. Zellsis shared his thoughts on how Waylay’s aggressive playstyle fits into the current landscape.

Zellsis Prefers Overtuned Duelists Over Waylay

Zellsis acknowledged that while Waylay is a strong addition to the agent pool, she faces tough competition from other overtuned duelists. In an interview, Zellsis mentioned that he believes Waylay won’t have the same game-breaking impact that Tejo had on the meta. Comparing her to agents like Yoru, Raze, and Neon, Zellsis stated that he would prefer to see an overtuned Yoru or Raze in her place.

Players have also raised concerns about the utility-heavy nature of VALORANT, with some feeling overwhelmed by the abundance of abilities in the game. Team Vitality’s IGL Saif ‘Sayf’ Jibraeel and Tyson ‘TenZ’ Ngo shared their thoughts on the current state of the game, highlighting the challenges presented by the utility-focused gameplay.

Zellsis echoed similar sentiments, mentioning that the constant release of new agents is shifting teams away from traditional compositions, leading to a constant battle of countering opponent’s comps.

Riot Games’ Principal UX Designer, Alex Wheeler, has acknowledged these concerns and reassured players that the team is actively working on improvements to address the issues raised by the community.

Despite these challenges, Sentinels are gearing up for Stage 1 of VCT Americas and will face 100 Thieves on March 24th. Fans can catch the action live on VCT Americas’ official Twitch and YouTube channels.
