SOCOM Rumors Resurface as Sony Taps People Can Fly for Unannounced Game

Developer Partnership to Produce New Video Game

Developer People Can Fly and Sony Interactive Entertainment have announced a new partnership to create a video game codenamed “Project Delta.” While details about the project have not been revealed yet, fans speculate that it may be a new installment in the SOCOM franchise.

Speculation on the New Game

An observant Reddit user from the PS5 subreddit brought attention to the collaboration between People Can Fly and Sony, hinting at a new game based on one of Sony’s intellectual properties. With People Can Fly’s expertise in developing shooters like Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, fans have narrowed down potential Sony IPs that could be adapted into a new game. Popular guesses include SOCOM, Killzone, Resistance, and Warhawk.

One Reddit user commented, “Has to be either Socom or Killzone since this company mostly makes shooters.” Another agreed, “Resistance as well is a good guess.” Yet another Redditor expressed interest in a reboot of Warhawk, stating, “That game had the Fortnite potential before Fortnite. Sony just kinda failed to really capitalize on it.”

The speculation continues with one user pleading, “Please God, let it be Resistance.” However, it is important to note that these are all just theories and the actual game could be something entirely different, possibly even a third-person shooter based on Knack. It may be a while before the true nature of “Project Delta” is revealed.

History of SOCOM Series

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, SOCOM was a popular third-person tactical shooter series released on PS2, PS3, and PSP. The last installment, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs, was launched in 2011 with mixed reviews. According to Metacritic, it received an average score of 67 based on 64 critic reviews. Since then, the series has been dormant.
