WildTurtle Announces Retirement from League of Legends Esports

Former League of Legends (LoL) player and coach Jason ‘WildTurtle’ Tran has officially announced his retirement from the esports scene. The news was shared on March 12th through a video on Shopify Rebellion’s social media platform, where WildTurtle had been working as a coach.

In the retirement video, WildTurtle reflects on his career and the reasons behind his decision to retire. He expressed that his enjoyment in the esports space had diminished over time, leading him to pursue other interests such as skiing, spending time with family, and pets. After being in esports for 13 years, WildTurtle felt that it was time to close that chapter.

How WildTurtle Found Success as a Pro Player

WildTurtle’s journey in League of Legends began in high school when he first attended LAN events for the game. Despite not initially aiming to become a pro player, WildTurtle’s talent and dedication led him to compete in college and eventually sign with Cloud9 in 2013. His legendary Pentakill during the LCS Spring 2013 as a substitute player for TSM solidified his spot in the professional scene.

Throughout his career, WildTurtle played for various North American esports organizations such as FlyQuest, Counter Logic Gaming, and Immortals. He later transitioned to coaching, acknowledging the challenges that come with the role and ultimately deciding to retire from esports.

Expressing Gratitude and Looking Ahead

Despite retiring, WildTurtle expressed gratitude for his time in LoL esports, emphasizing how video games have shaped his life and allowed him to connect with others globally. He plans to remain involved in the community and support emerging talent in the scene.

The video concludes with WildTurtle thanking his fans for their support throughout his career, showing appreciation for their continuous backing. As he moves on from professional gaming, WildTurtle leaves behind a legacy that has touched the hearts of many fans and players.
